Rusty Lipford, Ph.D.

J Russell (Rusty) Lipford, Ph.D., is the Chief Scientific Officer of Terremoto Biosciences. Previoulsy, he was the Vice President of Biology and Pharmacology. Prior to joining Terremoto, Rusty led small-molecule discovery teams in the Department of Oncology Research at Amgen for 15 years. Rusty guided Amgen’s KRAS franchise and was the discovery research lead for sotorasib, the first approved KRAS G12C inhibitor. He was also the discovery lead for the proteasome inhibitor franchise after the integration of Onyx and built Amgen’s protein homeostasis and targeted protein-degradation platforms. Rusty managed a group of fifteen cancer biologists and mentored or co-mentored seven postdoctoral fellows. He is a co-author on more than 35 original research manuscripts and an inventor on multiple patents. Rusty received his Ph.D. in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and pursued postdoctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology.
